According to the news portal of the Research Institute of Contemporary Jurisprudence, the ceremony for signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation between the Research Institute of Contemporary Jurisprudence and the Organization for Researching and Composing University Textbooks in Islamic and Human Sciences (SAMT) was held in the presence of Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Noor-Mofidi, President of the Research Institute, Ayatollah Dr. Hamid Shahriyari, President of SAMT Organization, and a group of directors and officials of both institutions.

This MoU was signed with the goal of expanding scientific and research cooperation, producing scientific and academic resources in Contemporary Jurisprudence, developing joint research, and utilizing the scientific capacities of both institutions in responding to emerging issues and contemporary societal needs.

In this ceremony, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Noor-Mofidi, pointing to the approaches governing the Research Institute’s activities, emphasized: “This institution, from the inception of its activity, has rested upon clear principles and frameworks and has consistently exerted efforts to realize these foundations in the practical arena as well.”

The professor of advanced jurisprudence in the Islamic Seminary of Qom, stating that the Research Institute’s activities are organized in the two areas of “fundamental research” and “applied research,” added: “A broad collection of scientific dossiers, specialized journals, scientific sessions, and other research outputs of this center were formed on this very basis, and the Research Institute’s trajectory of activities will continue accordingly in the future.”

The President of the Research Institute of Contemporary Jurisprudence, referring to the presence of researchers with various viewpoints in this institution, stated: “Diversity of scientific inclinations has never been an obstacle to preserving the main identity and commitment of the Research Institute, and all activities have been pursued within the framework of designated goals and missions.”

Elucidating the Foundations of Contemporary Jurisprudence and Defending the Values of the Islamic Revolution are Among the Research Institute’s Approaches

Ayatollah Noor-Mofidi, pointing to the scientific programs of recent months at the Research Institute, noted: “This institution, in line with explaining the thoughts, positions, and actions of the Martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution in the domain of Contemporary Jurisprudence, placed holding a series of scientific sessions and preparing a specialized special issue on its agenda so that his role in the flourishing and development of Contemporary Jurisprudence is scientifically elucidated.”

Emphasizing that the Research Institute of Contemporary Jurisprudence considers itself committed to the ideals of the Islamic Revolution, the Islamic Republic system, and Wilayat al-Faqih (Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist), he stated: “Defending these foundations is not merely a political position; rather, it arises from doctrinal convictions and the scientific and social responsibility of Islamic seminaries.” According to him, preserving the identity of Islam, safeguarding the achievements of the Islamic Revolution, and continuing this path in the future require strengthening these foundations and their scientific explanation.

Cooperation with SAMT Organization, an Opportunity for Scientific Foundation-Building in Contemporary Jurisprudence

The President of the Research Institute of Contemporary Jurisprudence considered signing the MoU with SAMT Organization the beginning of a fresh phase of scientific cooperation between seminary and university, specifying: “This cooperation will prove enduring and impactful when it leads to strengthening the scientific foundations of Contemporary Jurisprudence and lays the ground for producing joint, enduring scientific works.”

The professor of advanced jurisprudence in the Islamic Seminary of Qom, expressing appreciation for the scientific approach of SAMT Organization officials, expressed hope that this MoU can lay the ground for forming new scientific movements, producing joint works, and expanding problem-oriented research in the field of Contemporary Jurisprudence, strengthening the scientific foundations of this domain more than ever before.

Ayatollah Shahriyari: Contemporary Jurisprudence Must Respond to the Questions of Today’s World

Continuing this ceremony, Ayatollah Dr. Hamid Shahriyari, President of the Organization for Researching and Composing University Textbooks in the Islamic and Human Sciences (SAMT), referring to rapid developments in the contemporary world, emphasized the necessity of scientific and seminary centers playing a role in explaining intellectual foundations and responding to emerging issues.

Stating that current world conditions have placed new questions before Islamic thinkers, he stated: “Today more than any other time, we require producing research capable of answering society’s real issues and needs and unfolding new horizons before Islamic thought.” According to him, Islamic seminaries and research centers must employ their scientific capacity toward resolving contemporary problems and producing scientific literature proportionate to present-era needs.

The President of SAMT Organization, emphasizing the necessity of directing seminary research toward issues needed by society, added: “Today, addressing topics that exert no impact on resolving present-era problems and challenges no longer answers the mission of Islamic seminaries; rather, research must be organized with a view toward real questions and contemporary needs of Islamic society.”

He also, pointing to the role of scientific centers in supporting the Islamic system, noted: Just as reputable world think tanks operate in service of strengthening the intellectual and strategic foundations of their respective countries, scientific centers of the Islamic Republic as well, while preserving their scientific identity, must play a role in the path of strengthening the intellectual, cultural, and civilizational foundations of the Islamic system.

Establishing a Specialized Department of Contemporary Jurisprudence in Qom: A Step for Deeper Link Between Seminary and University

Based on the provisions of this MoU, the two institutions will cooperate with each other in establishing the specialized department of “Jurisprudence and Foundations of Islamic Law,” implementing joint research projects, producing scientific and academic resources, authoring and translating scholarly works, and expanding educational cooperation. Within the framework of this cooperation, launching a specialized department of Jurisprudence and Foundations of Islamic Law in Qom, utilizing the capacity of seminary professors and researchers, has been placed on the agenda to take an effective step in strengthening scientific foundations and developing the literature of Contemporary Jurisprudence through producing scientific content and educational resources required by universities.

Production of Foundational and University Books on the Agenda of Joint Cooperation

The Deputy of SAMT Organization, pointing to the provisions of the MoU, stated: Designing and executing joint research projects, authoring and compiling foundational books, producing university textbooks, translating scholarly works, and developing research cooperation are among the most important axes of this MoU.

He specified: Based on this agreement, first the scientific literature and theoretical foundations of emerging subjects in Contemporary Jurisprudence will be produced, and subsequently, relying on this scientific backing, textbooks proportionate to university needs will be compiled and published. Furthermore, translating selected works into Arabic and English has also been placed on the agenda to present the scientific capacities of Iran’s Contemporary Jurisprudence at the international level.

Utilizing the Scientific Capacity of the Research Institute of Contemporary Jurisprudence

Dr. Khademi described the Research Institute of Contemporary Jurisprudence as one of the impactful scientific centers of the Islamic Seminary of Qom, stating: “This research institute enjoys the valuable capacity of professors, researchers, and extensive scientific production, and SAMT Organization hopes that by utilizing this scientific capability, effective steps will be taken in producing university resources and offering scientific responses to newly arising issues (masa’il mustahdasah).”

Referring to the presence of Hujjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Mostafa Dorri, Vice President and Research Deputy of the Research Institute, in the Jurisprudence Department of SAMT Organization, he expressed hope that this cooperation can lay the ground for transferring the Research Institute’s scientific capacities to SAMT and developing scientific interactions between seminary and university centers.
